“Back to School Bash” Helps Veterans and Military Families
August 2016/LYNN – As local students prepare to head back to school next week, military families received an extra “thank you” at the 1st Annual “Back-To-School Bash” at Lynn Housing Authority and Neighborhood Development. The event, hosted by LHAND and Military Friends Foundation, offered free school supplies, clothing gift cards and more to veterans and military families with school aged children.
“I just can’t say thank you enough to everyone who made the Back To School Bash possible,” said veteran Katherine Tanner who attended the event with her son. “This alleviated a huge financial burden for our family. As veterans, knowing this type support is here for our children, it just means the world to us.” The event assisted more than 100 local children.
Cher Magic and Tangles Salons donated their time and talent to provide haircuts to both kids and adults in attendance. The Lynn Department of Veterans’ Services, the Bedford VA and the Massachusetts Department of Veterans’ Service were also on hand to assist veterans with benefits and services.
Veterans with school age children and military families can still receive free school supplies by contacting the Lynn Housing Authority. If you are interesting in donating to this program, please contact Military Friends Foundation 501c3 at 1-84-HELP-VETS (1-844-357-8387).
