Military Friends Salutes SGT Robert J. Barrett and his Family with “An American Soldier”

On May 24th, the Military Friends Foundation held its first Annual Meeting and Dinner at the famous Hampshire House in Boston’s historic Beacon Hill neighborhood. This inaugural event, attended by nearly 100 public officials, military leaders, servicemembers and their families, provided the Foundation an opportunity to report on the success of many of our programs over the last year and to recognize those individuals and organizations who have contributed to those successes.

By far, the most emotional portion of the evening was the recognition of the 2011 Military Family of the Year. This year, the Foundation was honored to recognize the family of SGT Robert J. Barrett of Fall River. SGT Barrett was killed in April 2010 while serving in Afghanistan. As part of the ceremony, the Foundation premiered “An American Soldier” – a video tribute to SGT Barrett featuring his father, mother, grandmother and daughter.

As we approach Memorial Day, a time to remember the service and sacrifices of our men and women in uniform, we hope you will take a few moments to watch “An American Soldier” and to share this email with your family and friends.
