Military Personnel and First Responders To Ruck March 26.2 Miles As Part Of Shadow Boston Marathon To Honor Fallen Comrades

APRIL/Concord – Hundreds of active duty military personnel and first responders from across the country with begin gathering before dawn on Saturday, April 16th, to honor their Fallen Comrades as part of the “Tough Ruck” in partnership with the Boston Athletic Association and the Boston Marathon. They will march 26.2 miles on historic Battle Road Trail in Concord in their full military gear including their Ruck sacks (30-60lbs weight) and raise funds for the Military Friends Foundation, a nonprofit that supports the families of the Fallen and Servicemembers in times of need for over a decade. In memory of the Fallen, each Rucker will carry a banner with the name of a Fallen Hero. The Boston Athletic Association is awarding each finisher an Official 2016 Boston Marathon Finishers Medal.

On April 15, 2013, Tough Ruck members were on the finish line of the Boston Marathon meeting with Tough Ruck Volunteer & Gold Star Father Carlos Arredondo just before the horrific bombings occurred. Carlos and the Tough Ruckers were some of the first on the scene to aid those injured in the blasts, becoming became a symbol of what it means to be “Boston Strong”.  Due to the new marathon security measures, the Ruck now takes at place at Minute Man National Historical Park. The public is invited to attend the event and cheer on the Ruckers throughout the course and at the finish line.  More information about the event is available at www.toughruck.org.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:

7:15AM Salute to the Fallen and Ruckers as they step-off on the 26.2 mile course

1:00PM – 4:00PM: The public is invited to gather at the finish line to cheer on the Ruckers (269 Monument Street, Concord, MA).  Finishers are presented with the first 2016 Boston Marathon medals by families of Fallen Heroes.  Family friendly activities and more!
