Charity Bibs Will Raise Critical Funds for Massachusetts Military Families
SWAMPSCOTT, MA – September 17, 2026 – Military Friends Foundation announced today that it has been selected as a member of the 2027 Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program and has received invitational entries for the 131st Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America on Monday, April 19, 2027.
The entries will allow runners to take on the historic 26.2-mile course from Hopkinton to Boston while raising funds and awareness for Military Friends Foundation. Created in the aftermath of 9/11, the nonprofit supports Massachusetts service members, veterans and military families during times of need.
Military Friends Foundation is one of a record 215 nonprofit organizations selected for the 2027 Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program, the first time the program has included more than 200 organizations. Through the program, the B.A.A. provides invitational entries to selected nonprofits, which recruit athletes who pledge to raise funds for their causes. Charity program runners account for nearly 10 percent of the Boston Marathon field.
“The B.A.A. has been an extraordinary supporter of the military community for many years, and Jack Fleming’s leadership has reinforced that longstanding commitment to our service members, veterans and military families,” said Brigadier General Tom Sellars (Ret.), president of Military Friends Foundation and an Iraq veteran. “Being selected for the Official Charity Program builds on that commitment and gives us a new opportunity to advance our mission on Marathon Monday. Every dollar our runners raise will help ensure that when a Massachusetts service member or military family faces a moment of crisis, they receive immediate assistance and have the full strength of the Commonwealth standing behind them.”
The B.A.A. has also been a longtime champion of Tough Ruck 26.2 Boston, helping ensure that fallen service members and first responders are remembered. Military Friends Foundation serves as the official charity of Tough Ruck Nation, supporting Massachusetts service members, veterans and military families.
